How It All Started: Our chapter was created and registered on Jan. 15, 2004, by the Queen Mum, Deborah Autrey. On Thursday, January 22, 2004, the first meeting and social function of The Nearby Pickleville Red Hat Society was held at the home of Deborah Autrey. Seventeen ladies from 22-86 years old were in attendance, three others who could not make the meeting that night are also joining. One is still deciding.............At this writing we have, 11 Red Hatters and 7 Pink Hatters. The table theme was the traditional red and purple theme, refreshments were served (we had punch in place of tea! I do not have that many tea cups!) Red/Pink Hat Merchandise from Classic Moments In Time was on display and many purchased items to begin their costuming adventure. As a group it was agreed that future meetings will be held once a month and that the night will always be on a Thursday night. With friendly laughter, rather than strict vote, some officers were appointed, such as the Vice-Mother, (Mum) in this case, Vickie Johnson, to be known as, Dame Victoria, is the Vice Mum! Why? Simply because she owns a Purple Volkswagen Beetle, and she discussed the possibility of a Red Hat Society w/ The Queen Mum to be first! The Sgt. In Gloves, is Dottie Rains, to be known in the future as Princess Overseer! Why? Because she has been known in the past to be the dictator on vacation outings! and given her knowledge and collecting of Gone With The Wind, she needed the name of an occupation from that day! We also have a Princess Daughter, Desiree Autrey, Why? Because her mom is Queen now........she has had enough titles! Princess Proxy Daughter is Donna Merritt, Why? Cause she is! Hope Kornegay is the Barristress, Why? We decided she had the most legal knowledge, even if her field is in Insurance, so meet Lady Barristress Hope! We cannot forget our Grand Duchess, Eloise Merritt will be our Grand Duchess, Why? She is the elder of this group at 86, so meet Grand Duchess Eloise! Every club must follow procedure, so our Anti-Parliamentarian is Jimmie Davis, the rules she will make are no rules at all! I will let her name herself and if she does not give me a name soon, it will be Lady Jimbo! she hates that! We still need a “hysterian” to volunteer, and I need you to put on your thinking caps, and give me new offices to designate and your titles you would like to be! Remember all are now Princesses, as we play dress up and go out on the town! In our group, all are entitled to crown pins, scepters, Tiaras, glitz and glam....... whatever you have the nerve to wear!
